Greetings! Please picture yourself sitting on a really comfortable airplane seat, getting yourself all settled in as you’re excitedly thinking about the fabulous destination you’re going to and the wonderful things that you’re going to do there.
Got yourself seated? Just snuggle in because those seats are so comfortable. As you’re getting situated, the onboarding announcements begin and the friendly flight attendant starts on their spiel, and one of the components is always this message:
“In the event of a drop in cabin pressure, yellow oxygen masks will deploy from the ceiling compartment located above you. Please secure your own mask before assisting others around you.”
Sound familiar?
And, I don’t know about you, but I know most people in a service-oriented profession would, in the moment of something like that happening, really struggle to not take care of the oxygen mask for their children or the people that they’re with before getting themselves an oxygen flow.
Oxygen Levels Are Dropping
And that’s what’s going on right now with all the uncertainty with the health, the financial market, jobs being impacted, people sheltering in place, and of course, social distancing. We’re probably taking care of other people and our clients need us now more than ever.
Maybe it is directly for the service they’ve been working with us on, or maybe it’s that they need a different type of help or a problem-solver, or they just need to be heard and supported this time. And the energy and time and care that we need to have to help them is depleting our own oxygen levels.
It’s Time to Secure Your Oxygen Mask
And so, in these times when most people are working from home and we are more isolated physically from other people, and people are more emotionally connecting and needing that from you, please make sure to take care of yourselves.
What You Can Do
Make sure you’re getting good sleep, hydrating and even though gyms are closed, get yourself up and moving around so that you have oxygen and blood flow going to all parts of your body.
Don’t get caught in the trap of the constant snacking and eating while you’re home. Trust me, that’s my downfall.
Because if we don’t take care of ourselves and get our oxygen masks in place, we’re not going to be able to continue to serve and help and bring our good knowledge to those whom we serve. And make sure that they have the oxygen they need in these trying times. I encourage you all to stay well.
